2011-2012 Scholarship Awarded
Congratulations to Teresa Gonzales,
a student at the UofA, on winning the AGA 2011-2012 scholarship! As the recipient
of this scholarship, Teresa will receive $1,000 to be used for student educational expenses and a one year special student
membership in the Phoenix Chapter of AGA.
Teresa wrote an inspiring essay that led
her to stand out from amongst the other scholarship applicants, in which she responded to the question, “why are you
interested in a career in Public Financial Management.” Teresa indicated
in an excerpt from her essay, that “if I pursue a career in public financial management I would have an opportunity
to analyze and audit the state’s accounting records and ensure their accuracy.
I would be able to serve the public by holding government officials accountable for responsible financial management. As an Arizona native I would be proud to make a positive impact on the financial well-being
of my home state.”
We wish you well Teresa, in your future endeavors
and hope that you choose a career in Public Financial Management, which as you indicate is truly rewarding!

Testimonial from past Scholarship Winner
I am very grateful that I received the AGA Scholarship last academic year. I found
out only two days before the tuition deadline that I was not going to receive the approved private loan I had applied for.
Fortunately, I had received a few scholarships early in the year and one of them was the AGA Scholarship. I was so relieved
to know that I had enough funds to cover my fall 2008 tuition. My educational loan failed to be distributed due to the downfalls
in the economy. AGA also awarded me a one-year membership that allows me to participate in AGA conferences and learn more
about government accounting. After all, I do not know that I would have done if I could not pay off my fall 2008 tuition and
continue my education, but AGA has solved my issue. Thank you, AGA!
